Di Fara’s Pizza – Finally!

March 14, 2009

Dom DeMarco is a pizza god.

We’ve known that Di Fara’s is supposed to have one of best pizzas in New York for quite awhile and we finally trekked out Midwood in Brooklyn to test it out.  We definitely weren’t disappointed!

We weren’t really sure what to expect, but it’s a small pizza joint on a nondescript corner in Brooklyn.  If you didn’t know it was there, you would totally walk (or drive) right on by.  Don’t be fooled by the picture below, we got there while it was closed in the afternoon before a line started to form.  Once we got there a few minutes before they reopened, the line was around the block!

DiFara OutsideSo the great thing about this place is that one guy, Dom DeMarco, makes every single pizza that is made.  While the slow process didn’t help our severe hunger pains (it took us more than 2 hours to get our pizza!), it’s pretty cool because it is like he is hand crafting your pizza especially for you.

He is entertaining to watch for a bit, but after 30 minutes are so, you’ll definitely be ready for some new distraction.  Luckily it is BYOB so we grabbed some beers from the nearby deli to pass the time.

Once the pizza’s are out of the oven, Mr. DeMarco cuts basil, drizzles oil on each pizza and tops it off with a handful of freshly grated Parmigiano-Reggiano.

The result is an amazing pizza!  We just had a regular pie and it had so much flavor between the buffalo mozzarella and the fresh basil.  It was so amazing that we inhaled most of the pie within 10 minutes!

We definitely recommend Di Fara’s.  It might be one of our favorite pizzas in NY or anywhere for that matter!  But definitely plan to make a night of it if you go on a weekend!  There is no picking up a quick slice here!
